Nestled within the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains at an elevation of 1,929 feet, Clayton is the county seat of Rabun County. Clayton’s charming and historic downtown is home to many small locally owned and family-run stores and restaurants including  Wander North Georgia, which donates 1% of every sale to local Rabun County non-profits, Reeves Hardware (not just a hardware store), Main Street Gallery, Belle of the Barn, HollyBeth Organics, Lulu & Tully’s, Dogwoods, and the coffee house and gourmet shop White Birch Provisions.

Some must visit restaurants in this small Rabun County town include: Grapes and Beans, the Clayton Cafe, the Fortify restaurants Fortify Pi and Fortify Kitchen & Bar (deemed one of the top 100 restaurants in the Nation by OpenTable in 2014), Fromage, and Universal Joint. If you’re a history buff, you’ll enjoy visiting the Rabun County Historical Society Museum to learn about the people, places and things that have shaped the community over it’s long history from the time that Clayton was referred to as The Dividings by local Cherokee tribes until today.
