Located just north of Clayton, the small town of Mountain City is home to Black Rock Mountain State Park. It was incorporated in 1907 and named for its 2,168 ft elevation. Another little known fact is that the Eastern Continental Divide passes through this area.
Visit the Foxfire Museum, an outdoor village complete with 20 historic log buildings that offers ongoing educational programming about Southern Appalachian skills and culture.. If you’re a history buff, the museum features over 50 years of historical interviews, images and video.
